Automatic Pool Cleaners - Do You Really Need One?

!#8# Automatic Pool Cleaners - Do You Really Need One?

You are shopping around for your first pool and are finding out the hard way that all things considered, you are having to spend more then you had originally planned on. Pool toys, security items, chemicals and a deck and now people are telling you that you also need an automatic pool cleaner.

Cleaning a Pool By Hand

Wait a minute! What did people do before there were automatic pool cleaners? They cleaned them by hand is what they did and that worked just fine. As it turns out, some people still do clean their pool this way and so can you if you choose to.

Don't Start Counting Yet

However; before you start counting the money you will save, you may be surprised to learn how little money that is, particularly if you are going to have a smaller above ground pool installed in your yard.

Basic Functioning Automatic Pool Cleaners

This is because you can now pick up a simple suction side automatic pool cleaner for less than 0. Granted, it is a very simple model but it will make your work so much easier and help to keep your pools water crystal clear.

Something to Consider

For larger pools or pools in a yard that is heavily landscaped with shedding trees and shrubbery you may want to consider a higher functioning model automatic pool cleaner. Don't worry though, because they are more affordable than ever before.

Larger Built in Pools

For a built in cement built in pool there are definitely other considerations to take into account. There is just simply more cleaning work that has to be done on them and while it can be done by hand it can be a daunting task. Also, try to take into account that better brands of automatic pool cleaners such as Dolphin come with extensive warranties and last for decades.

Is an Automatic Pool Cleaner Worth the Money?

!±8± Is an Automatic Pool Cleaner Worth the Money?

One of the most common questions that comes up with potential pool buyers is are automatic cleaners worth the money? Much like vacuum cleaners for your house these cleaners vary in price from less than 0 to well over ,000 depending on what features you want and which brand you purchase.

Before jumping in and buying the top of the line cleaner you should ask yourself a few questions about what you hope the pool cleaner will do. If you want a cleaner that keeps your pool spotless without you doing anything you may be disappointed. Cleaners can be a great investment and save you time cleaning the pool but they aren't an end all to maintaining your pool. The basic function of an automatic cleaner is cleaning the floor of the pool and some of the more expensive cleaners will even clean your walls and steps.

Pool cleaners fall into three categories suction powered, pressure powered and electric powered. The electric powered cleaners are typically more expensive and are much more effective than they were years ago. They run off of an electrical cord that plugs into a standard home outlet and once submerged in the pool they begin going to work.

Pressure powered cleaners spray a force of water to stir up debris into a bag they carry and at the end of the pool cleaning when you remove the pool cleaner, you empty the bag of debris. Many pressure powered pool cleaners require a separate booster pump that must be installed at the time of the pool installation for the pool cleaner to operate effectively.

Suction powered pool cleaners are among the least expensive types of cleaners available. An added benefit from suction powered cleaners is that they are operated by your existing filter system so while they are cleaning your pool they are also great for circulating your water. While they are traveling the bottom of your pool they are sucking in the cold water then they send it through your return jets to the top of the water for the sun to heat it back up.

So to answer the question are automatic cleaners worth the money? Absolutely, all three types have their own pros and cons depending on your needs and budget but every pool owner should have an automatic pool cleaner.
